Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting, Eternal.
No slumber can seize Him Nor Sleep.
His are all things In the heavens and on earth.
Who is there can intercede In His presence except As he permitteth?
He knoweth What (appeareth to His creatures As) Before or After or Behind them.
Nor shall they compass Aught of his knowledge Except as He willeth.
His throne doth extend Over the heavens And on earth, and He feeleth No fatigue in
guarding And preserving them, For He is the Most High. The Supreme (in glory).
Al-Baqarah 2: 255

1. Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) reported, ' I heard the Messenger of

Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about these two following Ayahs, i.e,
verses: "Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting, Eternal. [2:255],
And, Alif Lam Mim, Allah! There is no god but He - the Living, The Self-subsisting,
Eternal [3:1-2], That they contain Allah's Greatest Name."
[Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal in his Musnad]

2. It was narrated that Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever recites Ayat Al-
Kursi immediately after each prescribed Prayer, there will be nothing standing between
him and his entering Paradise except death.”
[an-Nasa’i and Ibn Hibban]

3. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the
Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “In Surat Al-Baqarah there
is a verse which is the best of all the verses of the Qur’an. It is never recited in a house
but Shaitan leaves: Ayat Al-Kursi.”

4. Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace
and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who recites it after each of the obligatory
prayers, then death will be the only thing preventing him from entering Paradise."
[ibn Sunni, at-Tabarani, ibn Hibban - Sahih]

5. Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah
(peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest? I said: 'Allah and
His messenger know best.'
He (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: 'Do you know which Ayah in Allah's
Book, according to you, is the greatest?' I (Abu Mundhir) replied: ‘It is 'Allah la ilaha illa
Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum'.[2:255]. Thereupon he (peace be upon him) patted me in the
chest and said, ' Rejoice by your knowledge, O Abu Mundhir! (i.e, may this knowledge
be a source of respect, honour and benefit to you)'."

has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and
protects all that exists… [al-Baraqah 2:255] until the end of the ayah, then you will have
a protector from Allah and no shaytan (devil) will come near you until morning comes.
[Sahih al-Bukhari]

8. Everything has its pinnacle and the pinnacle of the Qur’an is Surah al-Baqarah. In it
there is an ayah which is the greatest in the Qur’an: Ayat al-Kursi

9. It is reported by way of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone
used to come upon him and take from the charity – which the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) had made him guardian over – night after night, so on the third
night, he said: “I will report you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon
him), the man said: ‘Let me teach you some phrases with which Allah will cause you
benefit’ – they were very eager for good – so he said: ‘When you go to, read ‘Ayat alkursi
(Verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah) completely, for there is still upon you from Allah a
guardian, and no shaytan can get close to you until you enter upon morning.’ Then he
(peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He told you the truth and he is a liar, (that was
a shaitan).”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari]

10. It is reported from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) asked a certain companion if he was married. He replied. “I do
not have so much money as to get married.” RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon
him) said “Do you know Suratul-Ikhlas?” He replied: “Yes”. RasulAllah (peace and
blessings be upon him) remarked: “That equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur’an. Do you
know Suratul-Kafirun?” He replied: “Yes.” RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him)
said “it equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur'an”. He further asked “do you know Suratul-
Zilzal?” He replied, “yes.” RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That
equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur’an. Do you know Suratul-Fath?” He replied: “Yes”.
RasulAllah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That equals to a quarter of the
Holy Qur’an. Do you know Ayat-al Kursi?” He replied: “Yes”. RasulAllah (peace and
blessings be upon him) said: “That equals to a quarter of the Holy Qur’an. Get married,
get married, get married!”

11. It is reported by at-Tabarani that the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him)
said: “The one who recites Ayat-al kursi after the conclusion of an obligatory prayer, he
is under the Care of Allah until the next prayer commences.”
[at-Tabaraani’s At Targheeb wat-Tarheeb (2:435)]

Dua's for Forgiveness

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you.
[Hadith Qudsi]

Sayyid al-Istighfar - Master supplication for forgiveness

O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and my promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.

Shaddad ibn Aws (radiAllahu anhu) relates that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that he (Sayyid al-Istighfar) most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is to say (the above du'a). That "If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise."
[sahih al-Bukhari; 8,75,318, at-Tirmidhi; 3393, an-Nasa'i; 5522, Ahmad; 16662]

In another report we read, "I know words that will cause Allah to remove one's distress. These are the words (of supplication) of my brother Yunus, peace be upon him"
[at-Tirmidhi; 3500, an-Nisa'i in 'Amal al-yawmi wa al-layla; #656, al-Hakim 1:505 and 2:383. The latter declared it sound (sahih) and Dhahabi confirmed him]

Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us, Thou art our Protector; Help us against those who stand against Faith [surah al-Baqarah; 2:286]

O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for all my sins. I ask You to forgive me for all my wrongdoings [mazalim] against people that You have recorded, for there are many rights [huquq] and dues [mazalim] owed to Your servants that I am burdened with and for which I am hostage [murtahin]. O Allah, even if these (wrongdoings) are many they are insignificant in comparison with the magnitude of Your forgiveness. O Allah, any male or female servant of Yours who has rights upon me, in either that I have unjustly taken from him [ghasabtu] in regards to his land, possession, honor, body; whether he was absent or present; or he or his representatives demanded it from me and neither was I able to return it to him nor did I seek release of it from him. So I ask You through Your benevolence, generosity, and abundance of what You possess that You satisfy them on my behalf, and not give them a position over me that will decrease my good deeds; for You possess what You can satisfy them with on my behalf and I do not possess what to satisfy them with; and do not allow for their bad deeds to find a path over my good deeds on the Day of Judgment.

Dua & Forgiveness

Abu Hurayrah narrated the messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alayi Wasalaam said:

"There is nothing that is more noble in the sight of Allah than du'a"

(At Tirmidhi, Al Haakim and others)

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayi Wasallaam said:

"Caution will not be of any benefit against pre-destination, but du'a benefits (matters) that have occured and that are (yet) to occur. And indeed du'a meets with a calamity, and fights it untill the Day of Judgement."

(Al Tabarani and Al Haakim)

The Prophet Sallallahu Alayi Wasallam said:

"Whoever the door of du'a has been opened for, then all the doors of mercy have been opened for him. And nothing is more pleasing to Allah that He be asked of the things that are granted, than good health. Du'a is of benefit to (matters) that have occured, and that are yet to occur. So I advise you, O servants of Allah, to make du'a"

(At Tirmidhi)

Arir Ibn Abdillah stated that the prophet Sallallahu Alayi Wasallam said:

"There is no person who asks Allah for anything that Allah gives it to him, or keeps away from him a similar evil, as long as he does not ask for something evil or for breaking the ties of kinship".

At this, a person said to the prophet Sallallahu Alayi Wasallam:

"In that case, we will ask for plenty!"

The prophet Sallallahu Alayi Wasallam responded:

"Allah (is even) more plentiful!"

(At Tirmidhi)

There are three prayers that are sure to be answered: the prayer of the oppressed, the prayer of the traveler, and the prayer of a father for his son.

Our Lord descends to the nearest heaven every night, until there remains only a third of it, and says: "Who will call upon Me so that I may answer them? Who will petition Me so that I may bestow upon them? Who will seek forgiveness so that I may forgive them?"

[Bukhari & Muslim]

Ask Allah for forgiveness and ease in this world and in the next, for if you are given ease in this world and in the next, you will have attained success. [Bukhari]

Narrated Abu Hurairah (ra) that prophet Mohammad Salallahu Alayi Wasalaam said, Allah said:

"My mercy has preceded (excelled) my wrath"

(Sahih Muslim)
